Get to know Amy

Hello! I'm Amy, and I've just started my new role as Leadership and Management Professional Trainee on Gwynedd Council's Cynllun Yfory.

I'm from Penrhyndeudraeth, but recently moved to Harlech, it's nice to be by the seaside! I graduated from Bangor University with a degree in Management and Business in 2018.

I completed the degree at Dolgellau College, attending once a week while working full time as an administrator at a civil engineering firm in Trawsfynydd, G H James Ltd. After this, I had the opportunity to be a Restaurant Manager at The Square in Tremadog for over a year, this was a perfect opportunity for me to develop my management skills, and put the three years of university teaching into practice, a real challenge! In 2020, the pandemic happened, where I made the difficult decision to leave the hospitality industry, and take up a post within Gwynedd Council's Fleet department. After the great experience of working in the Highways and Municipal department, I have been lucky enough to be accepted onto this scheme with a fab group of other enthusiastic trainees! I'm looking forward to cracking on with the Cynllun Yfory and further developing my career, and meeting more interesting people along the way!

I will be studying a Masters Degree in Public Administration from January, through Glyndwr University, studying online will be a different way of learning for me, so I'm looking forward to sharing the experience with you all.

I'm a person who likes to keep busy in my spare time, you'll never find me sitting in the house! I help my sister with her Mobile Bar quite often at weekends, and have the opportunity to attend lots of weddings and exciting events! I have a little dog called Taz, I love to take her to the stunning beaches we have here and exploring the local woods. Music is a big part of my life too, singing, piano and harp mostly, but also going to any gig or festival!

I will be keeping you all in the 'loop' within the next few weeks and will update these blogs regularly. Hopefully this will give you an idea of what it's like to be a Professional Trainee at Gwynedd Council. Remember to follow the blog if you're interested, and also Cynllun Yfory's social media. There will be many exciting events within the next few months, and I'm looking forward to sharing my interesting experiences with you here.

Bye for now!
