Reflecting and Looking Forward- 2021

It is a new year and hopefully the end is in sight for the covid-19 battle, by March I will have been on the scheme for a year. A year has flown by and I have learnt so much. I have had experiences I didn’t expect to find myself in, large traffic schemes, active travel projects, definitive map modification orders, and a whole lot more.

At the beginning of a new year I wonder, what does this year have in store for me? So far many of the projects I’m working on are fairly large and will be on going for a while. For example, the consultation of the new cycle route between Llanrug and Caernarfon has now come to a close, now we will be looking at analysing the results before moving onto the next stage. Physical work aims to start between 2021-2022.

There are more project consultations I am working on that are yet to come out for public consultation. I’m excited to tell you all about them in my next blog.

In my previous blog I mentioned that I was working on promoting active travel. With COVID stopping our initial ideas, I thought of making videos, posters and children’s activities. I have enjoyed doing this kind of work as I can use my creativity in thinking of ways to promote a message and encourage others to walk or cycle to work or school. It is now more important than ever that people get a chance to spend time outdoors to improve wellbeing.

I have just finished two modules in my master course. I have enjoyed learning for the lectures and I also had an opportunity to do group work online, an experience I haven’t really had before. Together we wrote an new science article. It’s quite amazing how technology has allowed strangers from all across the country to work collaboratively and successfully.

Who knew the second half of this module would lead to a social media campaign calendar assignment. I did my campaign on raising awareness and importance of trees and encourage more people to plant trees. I believe this assignment was chosen as technology is increasingly becoming an essential part of our daily lives. An interesting assignment.

Here is the logo that I designed for the assignment. The goal is for people have a second to spare to learn about trees through social media platforms such as Facebook.

The next two modules I am undertaking are Ecological Assessment and Planning and Sustainability.

I have started making preparations by reading books and various websites and journals. We have had an introductory lecture so far and this introduction reminded me of some lectures at Harper Adams University. I am looking forward for the next one.

It looks like another exciting and busy year ahead for me!

Bye for now!
