Secondment

My time in the procurement team in the Highways and Municipal department is now over, but I haven’t moved on to the next location as expected. Instead, I have come off the Scheme for the time being, and on secondment as an officer in the contracting and commissioning team in the Adults, Health and Well-being department.

Some of you who have previously been following my blogs may have noticed that I have been in this team on one of my previous placements on the Scheme (before I went to Highways and Municipal), and I have now settled back there for about 4 months. It’s nice to be back in a department that I’m familiar with, where I know who’s who and which allows me to get started straight away.

During my previous time in the team, I was working on a specific project with the learning disability service. But this time I’ve had a variety of projects and tasks to work on. A typical week can include attending a regional meeting, visiting a care home, and participating in internal departmental meetings.

In terms of procurement, I have been dealing with a quick quote process (a contract with a value which means that the full tender process does not have to be followed), and a number of regional frameworks that are in the pipeline.

As well as contracting and commissioning, this team also develops services within the department. As part of this work, I have been mapping the networks available to older people in Gwynedd. The purpose of this work is to look at the services available in the County, so that we can ensure that adequate provision exists and identify any areas where further development is required.

I am also working on a piece of work where we need to work with our providers, and as a result a lot of my time has recently gone into meeting with care homes across the County.

Although I have been off the Scheme for a while, I have continued to contribute to the Scheme’s events, such as – holding a stand at the Freshers’ Fair at Coleg Glynllifon and representing Gwynedd Council at a Careers Fair at Ysgol Glan-y-Môr. It is a privilege to take part in such events and to introduce Gwynedd Council and its range of careers to local young people. After a summer break we will be starting again over the next few months, so keep an eye on our social media to see where we will be next!
