One project I’ve been working on since September is the Children First Project. The project is run by the Welsh Government, and the aim of the project is to create strong communities, supporting children and young people in their communities as well as reducing inequality.
One of the main features of the project I had remember is that this is not a new project, and there is no funding to run the project. Instead, it is a way of working together for the benefit of children and young people focusing on a specific area.
Our intention as a project group is to listen to the needs of children and young people in the area, to create change at a local level, creating links between partners to work together for the benefit of children and young people, rather than replace existing programs.
We as a project group in Gwynedd have completed our needs assessment for our area, and have identified organizations and projects that could help us to develop the area and improve our collaboration. Recently I was responsible for organizing a Children First Board meeting ensuring that representatives from different organizations attended and it was very interesting to hear their views and ideas about what they could offer and try to work as a multi-agency, taking advantage of each other’s expertise to offer something better for the children and families of the area.
We have a lot of work to do between now and March in order to move forward with this project, and to stimulate this new way of working to create links between agencies, giving the opportunity to individuals take advantage of what is already being offered in their area.
