I was delighted to be part of an incredible project this month titled #twogenereations.
The main objective of the project was to engage the residents of the Cefn Rodyn Care Home in Dolgellau in discussions about their schooldays with pupils from Ysgol Bro Idris.
The discussions were held over a 3 day period and were led by the Welsh actress Ffion Dafis. Ffion’s role within the project was to lead discussions on various topics such as comparing the school days of the residents of Cefn Rodyn with those of today’s pupils of Ysgol Bro Idris.
The first day of the project included a series of informal discussions between Ffion and the residents. The discussions were both fascinating and lively and many of the older people had extremely interesting stories to share about their childhood days in the Dolgellau area and, very soon it became apparent that they would be very different from Ysgol Bro Idris’ studens current experiences!

Following discussions between Ffion and the residents the next day was spent carrying out activities with Year 11 pupils at Ysgol Bro Idris. The activities and questions were based on raising awareness of the physical and mental difficulties associated with the elderly. There was also an opportunity to discuss what society should do to support the elderly. The pupils were excellent in expressing their opinions on these topics and they were all looking forward to visiting Cefn Rodyn and meeting the residents.

During the last day of the project the two generations came together to share experiences and promote collaboration in the future. The young people had a positive impact on the old people and it was clear that everyone enjoyed themselves very much!

Whilst reflecting on the experience I feel strongly that society must commit to the elderly’s wellbeing and maintain meaningful relationships and, bringing together generations to take part in this type of activity is definitely an effective way of doing this! This will therefore be the strong link between
Until next time,
